Apartment Fire Displaces Four Residents in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MD - A residential structure fire occurred on September 25, 2025, in the 300 block of Crusader Road in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. The incident was reported at 5:00 P.M. and involved an apartment building.
Four occupants were displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross is currently providing assistance to the affected residents. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The fire was discovered by an occupant of the building. Smoke alarms were present in the structure and activated during the emergency. The Rescue Fire Company served as the primary responding department.
More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene. The department issued one alarm for the incident. Fire crews brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes of their arrival.
Preliminary investigation indicates the fire originated inside the residence. Officials have determined the cause to be accidental, resulting from a lithium-ion battery failure. The area of origin was identified as the interior of the residence.
Property damage estimates include $500,000 for the structure and $100,000 for contents. The total estimated loss reaches $600,000.
