Cambridge Police Arrest Hurlock Man After Hit-and-Run DUI Incident

CAMBRIDGE, MD - Cambridge Police Department officers arrested a 61-year-old Hurlock, Maryland man following a multi-vehicle collision and subsequent hit-and-run incident on September 13, 2025.


Officers responded to the intersection of Cambridge Beltway and Maple Dam Road at approximately 8:27 p.m. after receiving reports of a motor vehicle collision involving multiple vehicles. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a vehicle had struck a tow truck that was hauling another vehicle.


Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver of the striking vehicle had fled the area and was observed driving to a residence in the 600 block of Robbins Street. The witnesses also indicated that the male driver appeared to be intoxicated.


Police located the suspect at the Robbins Street address and identified him as William Cleatus Stier. Stier admitted to officers that he was operating the vehicle that struck the tow truck and other vehicle involved in the collision.


During the investigation, officers detected the odor of alcoholic beverages on Stier. The suspect informed officers that he had consumed alcohol and taken medications prior to the accident. After conducting Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, officers placed Stier under arrest.


Stier was subsequently released on citations and faces multiple charges including Driving Under the Influence, Driving While Impaired, Driving While So Far Impaired Could Not Drive Safely, Fail to Provide Insurance, Fail to Furnish Required Information, Fail to Locate and Notify Owner of Accident, Fail to Return and Remain at Scene of Accident, Reckless Driving, Negligent Driving, Driving Uninsured Vehicle, Operate Unregistered Vehicle, Displaying Plate Issued to Another Vehicle, Unauthorized Display of Registration Plate, Driving Vehicle Without Current Registration, Fail to Attach Plates Front and Rear, Fail to Display Registration Card, Speed Greater Than Reasonable, Fail to Control Speed to Avoid Collision, Fail to Display License, Driving Without a License, and Fail to Obey Traffic Control Device.
