SALISBURY, MD - The City of Salisbury has announced its fall fire hydrant flushing program scheduled for two separate weeks in October. The maintenance program is designed to maintain high water quality and improve the overall health of the municipal water system.

The flushing also ensures fire hydrants remain operational and in good working condition throughout the city.

The flushing schedule will be divided into two phases. During the first phase from October 5 through October 9, areas highlighted in blue on the city's map will undergo flushing between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. This nighttime schedule was selected to minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses in those areas.

The second phase will take place October 13 through October 17. All remaining areas in the city will be flushed during normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This schedule allows the water works department to complete the comprehensive maintenance program across all service areas.

Water discoloration may occur during the flushing process. Cori Cameron, Director of Water Works, explained the potential impact on customers. "It is possible that the flushing could break loose sediment that may enter pipes in homes or businesses," said Cameron. "If you notice discoloration in your water during this period, simply turn on all faucets and run the water for a short time to clear it. Businesses that draw large volumes of water at opening are particularly susceptible."

Residents who have questions or concerns about the flushing program can contact the City of Salisbury Department of Water Works, Utilities Division. The department can be reached at 410-548-3103 for additional information or assistance during the maintenance period.
