Fatal Assault Investigation Leads to Murder Charges in Caroline County, Maryland

Caroline County, MD - Deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff's Office responded to a cardiac arrest call on September 29, 2025, that quickly became a homicide investigation. The incident occurred in the 300 block of Maple Avenue in Ridgely, Maryland, at approximately 9:30 a.m.


Emergency responders from the Caroline County Department of Emergency Services and the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Company initially responded to assist a 65-year-old male reported to be in cardiac arrest.


Upon arrival, first responders determined the victim was deceased and had sustained injuries consistent with an assault.


The Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division was immediately called to the scene. Investigators determined that a physical altercation had occurred between the victim and Tyler Davis, 22, of Ridgely, Maryland. Davis resided in the same residence as the victim.


Following the investigation, Davis was taken into custody without incident. He faces multiple charges including second degree murder, manslaughter adult victim, assault first degree, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, vulnerable adult physical injury, vulnerable adult abuse house/family member, and vulnerable adult abuse custodian.


Davis appeared before the Caroline County District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance. He was remanded to the Caroline County Detention Center without bond.


The Maryland State Police Crime Scene Unit and Caroline County State's Attorney's Office provided assistance during the investigation. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.
