CAMBRIDGE, MD - On Friday, September 5, 2025, detectives conducted a traffic stop that resulted in two arrests for drug-related offenses.

At approximately 2:49 p.m., detectives from the Proactive Community Engagement Unit (PACE) stopped a vehicle for driving without its headlights on.

The occupants were identified as Akenia Dawn Fletcher, 47, of Cambridge, MD, and Raymond Chapelle King, 54, also of Cambridge, MD.

During the stop, a Cambridge Police Department K9 Unit was called to the scene. The K9 conducted a sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert for the presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS). A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered paraphernalia used for ingesting or inhaling heroin or crack cocaine.

A search of Fletcher's purse revealed additional paraphernalia used for inhaling crack cocaine. Officers also found crack cocaine during a search of Fletcher's person.

Both Fletcher and King were released on criminal citations for charges of CDS Possession Not Cannabis and CDS Possession Paraphernalia.

Update: On 9-12-25 in the evening, Akenia Fletcher contacted Cambridge Police Department and informed officers that she was not the correct person involved and that it was her daughter that was involved in the incident. Akenia Fletcher's daughter was identified as Akemia Fletcher.

On 9-15-25, Cambridge Police Department Detectives investigated the incident further and confirmed that Akemia Fletcher in fact did use her mother's name and DOB during the original incident that occurred on 9-5-25.

Cambridge Police Department Detectives have been in contact with the Dorchester County States Attorneys Office and have had the charges that were originally issued for Akenia dropped.

Cambridge Police Department Detectives have applied for charges against Akemia Fletcher with the District Court Commissioner, where a Criminal Summons has been issued and is waiting to be served on Akemia.

Akemia will be charged with the following:
- CDS Possession Not Cannabis
- CDS Possession Paraphernalia
- Fraud Person Identity to Avoid Prosecution
- Obstruct and Hindering

At no time was Akenia Fletcher involved in the incident that occurred on 9-5-25.
