Law Enforcement Searches for Fugitive in Federalsburg, Maryland

Federalsburg, MD - A coordinated search effort is currently underway in the Handy Road area of Federalsburg, Maryland, involving the Caroline County Sheriff's Office and several other law enforcement agencies.


Authorities are searching for a fugitive connected to an incident that occurred in Delaware. The individual has been identified as John Mitchell Gleysteen. Gleysteen is described as a 30-year-old white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing light-colored khaki shorts and no shirt.  


At this time, Gleysteen is considered a fugitive from Delaware with active arrest warrants. Law enforcement urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity without delay.  


Community members are encouraged to contact 911 or their local law enforcement agency immediately if they observe any activity that may assist in locating Gleysteen.  


Authorities stress that if anyone sees Gleysteen, they should not approach him but instead contact 911 immediately. Safety precautions are advised for all residents in the area as the search continues.

Delaware State Police have arrested 30-year-old John Gleysteen of Bridgeville, Delaware for felony offenses following a menacing incident that occurred last week in Bridgeville.


On August 10, 2025, Glyesteen was arrested and taken to Troop 5. He was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $67,300 cash bond.


  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing (Felony)
  • Harassment
  • Offensive Touching
  • Criminal Mischief under $1,000 Damage Property - 2 counts
