Lewes Police Department Alerts the Community for Situational Awareness

LEWES, DE - At approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning, Lewes Police Officers responded to a report of a Ford Ranger pick-up truck stuck in the sand at Lewes Beach.


Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle bottomed out in the sand near the water. A search of the truck revealed five weapons, including three handguns, a shotgun, and an assault-style rifle, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.


The truck was registered to a male subject from Maryland, who has been taken into custody. The individual is currently detained at the Lewes Police Department as the investigation continues.


The Cape Henlopen School District, Beebe Hospital, and the University of Delaware have been notified of the situation.
